The President is elected by the citizens of Sri Lanka in a General Election who, in turn, elects the cabinet of ministers along with the Prime Minister.

The economy of Sri Lanka is largely based on agriculture, services and light industries. Between 2012 to 2017, the economy of Sri Lanka has expanded at an average rate of 6% per year.
Tourism is one of the major industries in Sri Lanka and contributes greatly to the overall economy. Other major industries include Tea industry, Apparel and Textile Industry, Agriculture and IT industry.

The Sri Lankan government doesn’t allow expats to buy property in the country. If they wish to buy an apartment, they can purchase one above the fourth floor. They can also rent a house or an office in Sri Lanka.
